The Regional YMCA of Western Connecticut will open a professional art gallery within the ESCAPE to the Arts building in downtown Danbury. The new gallery will showcase art work by local, regional and emerging artists. Exhibition opportunities will be open to artists working in the following media: oils, watercolor, acrylic, pastel, graphite, printmaking, photography, ceramics, sculpture and mixed media.
The gallery will open with an exhibition of new work by the teaching artists and staff at ESCAPE. The show will run from May 5 through June 17, with an opening reception on May 5 from 4 to 6pm. The art gallery at ESCAPE to the Arts is located at 293 Main Street, Danbury, CT.
The gallery will provide an opportunity for the Y to strengthen its connection with the community while enhancing the arts and culture of downtown Danbury. “It is a way for us to reach a new audience, while creating something that can inspire our current one,” said Art Director Tara Tomaselli.
Related programs will support the exhibits and allow ESCAPE to broaden its audience. The gallery will host artist talks and demonstrations for the general public. Workshops will be available for emerging artists. The gallery can also serve as a location for poetry readings, and choral and instrumental performances. Youth classes will also be enhanced by visits to the gallery with guided discussions on art.
Artists interested in exhibiting their work in the gallery should inquire at ESCAPE to the Arts, call (203)794.1413 or visit regionalymca.org for more information.
