What do Cincinnati, San Antonio, and tailgating have in common? Chili. Whether with beans or without – a culinary dilemma – this winter warm-up tops the comfort food list.
On Sunday, February 10, the Danbury Westerners, CityCenter Danbury, and the Danbury Arena will host the fourth annual Chili Winter Warm-Up, featuring a chili cook-off, entertainment for kids and families, a discounted public skate, and downtown Danbury hospitality. The event takes place from 1-4pm and will be preceded for the first time this year by the “Big Chili” 5K run, which kicks off at 10:30am.
Entertainment at the Chili Winter Warm-Up will include the Mad Hatters Barbershop Chorus, Sparky the Dog (Danbury Fire Department’s mascot), Marty the Magician, games, arts and crafts, face painting by ESCAPE to the Arts, and music by Dave King as well as the band Standby. Providing fun for the entire family, one can “chili” out for $5 per person or $15 per family of four.
Not-for-profits and service organizations, caterers, restaurants, and individuals may enter the chili cook-off. Nearly $1,500 in cash and awards will be presented, including those for most creative, most enthusiastic, and most entertaining chilis, as well as for best chili decor. Tasting judges will include three food professionals this year. All chili team entries are due by February 4.
