This year at the Walk of Honor, an annual veteran commemoration in Danbury, Connecticut, a new component will be added to the event: the Walk of Honor Warrior Award.  We are asking residents of Danbury and surrounding areas to nominate a veteran who has served in a combat zone and who also exemplifies the values of courage, integrity, devotion to duty, loyalty, respect, selfless service, and honor.

“ I know we have many heroes walking among us every day and we don’t even realize who they are.  I think it’s important to take the time to say thank you.  We may not know all of your names, but we know you have given of yourselves and this is a small token of our gratitude,” says Mary Teicholz, organizer of the event.

The nominations should be no longer then five hundred words and should include the nominee’s name and military rank along with the name and contact information of the person submitting the nomination. A committee of five people, one of which is a veteran, will look at the nominations. The deadline for all nominations is September 30, 2012.

Nominations can be emailed to mteicholz@yahoo.com or mailed to Mary Teicholz, 6 Shannon Ridge Rd, Danbury, CT, 06810.  Nominations can also be submitted through walkofhonor.us.

Presentation of the Warrior Award will take place at the Walk of Honor on Sunday, October 14 at the Danbury War Memorial at noon.
