In Connecticut, jobs in the media industry including arts, entertainment, and sports are expected to grow by 11.7% through 2020. (For comparison, the national average is 4.3%). Middlesex Community College in Middletown is responding to this boom in jobs by providing updated associate degrees and job-based training programs through its Center for New Media to get graduates ready for the workforce. One special workshop is the intensive “Production Assistant Boot Camp.”
The 32-hour “boot camp” is an ideal way to learn the skills required to get your foot in the door of the film or television industry. Taught by an experienced assistant director, the course teaches terminology, production organization and personnel, set etiquette and operations, radio communications, production office procedures, and understanding the various production forms, including call sheets and production reports. Students will participate in mock training exercises and learn all the basics about this position, including resume and job search tips, as well as job interview techniques.
The workshop will be held at Middlesex Community College, located at 100 Training Hill Road, Middletown. It will run for four consecutive Saturdays starting June 8. Cost is $499. For course information contact Richard Lenoce, director of the Center for New Media or (860)343-5796.
