CityCenter Danbury has enjoyed a stellar Summer Concert Series, but it doesn’t stop there! September brings a harvest of food and music festivals to the CityCenter Danbury Green, each unique and adventuresome.

Starting at noon on Sunday, September 2, Danbury’s first West Indian Cultural JerkFest will celebrate 50 years of independence for the people of Jamaica, Trinidad, and Tobago.  And what better than with steel drums, carnival dance lessons, Caribbean cuisine, kid friendly games, arts and crafts, and performances by Pappa Biggy, the Skanktones, Sledge, the MSN Band, Nadine Queen, the Hartford Steel Symphony, and numerous DJs spinning reggae, soca, calypso, and chutney.

The annual Taste of Danbury, which attracted more than 20,000 people last year, will serve up local food highlights the following weekend starting at noon on Saturday, September 8 and Sunday, September 9. With the support of Union Savings Bank; Ventura, Ribeiro & Smith; Hat City Pools; Danbury Cultural Commission; Danbury Parking Authority; BRT; Danbury Arena; and the Savings Bank of Danbury, the Taste of Danbury will be bigger and better than ever.

Great tastes will be served up (at bite-size prices) from El Sabor, Thai Awesome, The Blue Dog, Roma’s Deli, Nick’s Restaurant, Romy’s BBQ, The Ice Cream Guy, Two Steps Downtown Grille, Reach, Weenie Lynn’s, and others. The array of food crosses state, regional, and international borders: ceviche, pinchos, Thai spring rolls, empanadas, eggplant rollatini, shish kabobs, cannolis, ice cream sundaes, fajita wraps, and, of course, hot dogs with the works. The Community Culinary Institute of Northwest Connecticut will provide demonstrations, and kids can even build their own teddy bear from the Danbury Fair  Mall favorite Build-A-Bear Workshop. The Steve Augeri Band headlines the weekend’s entertainment – the former lead vocalist of Journey will perform on Saturday, September 8 at 8pm and on Sunday, September 9 at 2pm.

Curious Creatures, founded in 1987, will be on site with an array of alligators, turtles, rabbits, chinchillas, ferrets, and geckos to make kids laugh and appreciate our shared environment.

Completing CityCenter Danbury’s acknowledgement of the city’s diverse cultures and food, the inaugural Brazilian Day Danbury will celebrate Brazil’s Independence Day on Sunday, September 16 beginning at noon. Sharing the warmth of Brazil’s rich music and cultural heritage, bands Ai Delicia, Sambae, and Seducao will move the crowd – and of course, there will be churrasco.

Parking for all of these events is readily available at the Patriot Garage on Ives Street and the Charles A. Bardo Garage on Library Place. For more information, call CityCenter Danbury at (203)792 1711 or visit
