Beloved U.S. veteran, musician, and local hero Fred Brown, better known as “FreddyB”, has fallen on hard times. The former Café Nine bartender of nearly 18 years as well as keyboardist for reggae bands I.N.I.T.Y and Gnostic Roots has been diagnosed with cancer and is also facing eviction from his longtime East Rock residence. He’s always been the type to lend a helping hand to those in need. Now it’s our turn to give back and say “thank you” for all the music, love, generosity, and friendship he has shown us throughout the years.

Free Spirit Entertainment, Christian Marrone, and Toad’s Place will present the “Friends of FreddyB Benefit Concert” at Toad’s Place in New Haven, Connecticut on Sunday June 3, 2012. Doors open at 6pm and the show starts at 6:30. Tickets are a $10 donation. Larger donations are accepted and encouraged. 100 percent of the proceeds go directly to aid Freddy in his recovery. The benefit concert will feature amazing live music from local, national, and international talent in genres including rock, blues, and reggae.

Performers include Christian Marrone, Rocky Lawrence, Bowen Arrow, Fallopian Two, Travis Moody Band, I.N.I.T.Y, Gnostic Roots, Mutti Lewis, Irie Feelings, Don Minott, D.J. See Love, Mike Mills and Friends (featuring Burnice Mills, The Langley Project, Cecelia Calloway- daughter of legendary icon Cab Calloway, and the Rhythms from the Heart drum circle). Special surprise guest musicians will also appear.  The concert will be hosted by Emcee I-Messiah of Free Spirit Entertainment and Bridgport’s WPKN public radio.

Food will be provided by Arizona Brown’s. Raffle prizes include gift certificates to local businesses including Sage American Bar and Grill, Fashionista Vintage and Variety, Rubbermatch, Firehouse 12, The Space, Café Nine, Soma Therapies, two pairs of tickets to the Fiona Apple concert at the Ives Center in Danbury, courtesy of Manic Productions, signed Christine Ohlman CDs and much more.
