The Danbury Music Centre awarded two Deming Family Scholarships in June, each were in the amount of $1,000. One award went to Nsangi Kariamu, a graduate of Danbury High School and a junior at New York University majoring in music education and piano. Her award was presented at the annual membership meeting of the Danbury Music Centre by board member John Cherry and Larry Deming, son of Danbury resident Mary Deming, and the late Robert Deming.

An award was also made to Jerome Burns, a graduate of Danbury High School and a senior at SUNY Purchase majoring in trumpet performance. His award was presented by Larry Deming at a rehearsal of the Danbury Symphony Orchestra.

The Deming family has made this scholarship available since early 2000 in appreciation of the many musical opportunities the Danbury Music Centre provides for the community.

The Deming Family Scholarship is awarded each summer to a student or students from the greater Danbury area attending an accredited college or university for advanced study in music. For information about the next round of scholarships, call Nancy F. Sudik at the Danbury Music Centre at (203)748-1716 or visit danbury.org/musicctr.
