Winter Farmers Markets

The folks at Stanziato’s Wood Fired Pizza in Danbury posted a fun, off-the-cuff video on Facebook the other day of the flourishing greenhouses at Holbrook Farm in Bethel, Connecticut. Despite the snow and chilly temps outside, their was a warm, lush landscape of herbs and greens inside.

It just goes to prove that you can still find amazing local eats in winter. As I always say, do what you can when you can. It might be a bit of a challenge to eat local in winter, but it’s doable. Even if all you do is buy some local greens for a salad, it’s a start. It counts.

To help inspire you to go local this winter, here’s a list of winter farmer’s markets going on around the state. If I missed any, please let me know and I’ll happily add it to the list. In addition to farmers markets don’t forget that many farms, like Holbrook, with on-farm stands are open in winter too.
